Cinco de Mayo Art Walk Oceanside Art Waves ...

A celebration of spring for Oceanside art patrons, Artists and Visitors. Usually May is gray, but not this year, warm and with the City Plaza fountains in their glory, we had a wonderful trip in the Art Circle for Oceanside's walk for the Arts.

Starting at the Oceanside Museum of Art, we found a surfboard like no other. It was in iridescent blues, violets and greens. Made entirely with recycled DVDs it shone in the evening light like an ocean gem washed up on the beach, but of course ending up at OMA. Created by Kathleen Ossiander, , she was delightful in her telling the story of how she had these old DVDs with no function,  http://www.oceansideartwalk.org/artists/kathleen-ossiander  had an epiphany... A mosaic!...so it happened a jewel of a surfboard. Of course it does not belong standing up in the sand, but I being a romantic see it there...giving the old disposables bringing a functioning life masquerading as a newborn surfboard springing from the Sea.

From there we made our way to Mary and Joe's new location of their Oceanside Art Gallery at 717 Mission Ave # C , http://oceansideartgallery.com/. As always they had delicious treats with wine. An artist who is unique in her work, Blake Kern was there with her original art. http://www.oceansideartwalk.org/artists/blake-kern
My friends bought one one her one of a kind constructions to send to New York. Oceanside Art is getting around...New York even...! Congratulations Blake.
Blake and her magic art works
We then walked downhill to Artists Alley. The crowds were large and happy in the celebration of the night. Energy flowed as did the refreshments. Music was in the air and dancing vibrations filled my tired old body.

Entering the Muramid Mural Museum, we found that the space was entirely filled with the party atmosphere and the Art Works were indeed to be admired 3 of which were sold. Joanne Tawfilis was the energy at the center of this incredible space for Art. Artists Alley has a long history of ups and downs, but Joanne has taken this old space and transformed it into The First Mural Museum in the World and in doing so brought International art and acclaim to Oceanside. http://muramidmuseum.com/

Leaving the Muramid, we walked down the hall and found a brand new Wine Tasting Room in the Art Building. A first for the Art Building and a nice change of pace from the Craft Beer scene. We did have our taste with the Holme Estate Cellars. http://www.holmeestatecellars.com/ They do have a fine offering. Craig Holem gave us a warm welcome and did the pouring. Located at 216 N. Coast Hwy, the space is very upscale in decor and we found the tasting exceptional.

All in all a delightful way to spend a Friday Night and we will be eager to see what comes next in June, so join us and you too might find a treasure to take home and bring some Art Waves into your life...
